The Music Shift
In February 1999 Jumping Fences completed The Music Shift, a project held in three workplaces around Brisbane.
We visited two factories and an abattoir, and performed to the workers in their lunchtime. On return visits, we talked to workers and union delegates about their workplace and later wrote a song for each place and returned to perform it at the worksite.
The project was facilitated by the Arts Program of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (now the Queensland Council of Unions), and supported by the Brisbane City Council. The particular unions involved were the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia and the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union.
The links below will take you to pages with photos and song lyrics for each of the workplaces visited.
